Hey there...

via swiss-miss
Hey everybody, I'm still here. Life has been a bit hectic lately... I just finished up my thesis field work last week, yay! But I still have a TON of stuff to do, lab work, writing, analysis, et cetera... But I'm sure you don't really want to hear about all that... Anyways, I am in the midst of the final push of exams and papers for this semester. And in just over a month, I get to go back to Hawaii! I am super excited and the thought of visiting friends and family and getting to travel is keeping me going... I can't wait! Hope you are all doing lovely.

Happy Weekend!

Isn't this photo great? I took it on Friday while hard at work documenting pollinators. Here are a few more nice shots taken in the field where I am spending most of my work hours these days:

Hope you are having a pleasant and relaxing weekend!

What's up, little pup?

Makes me smile: Scooping up my little dog, burying my face in her neck and inhaling. She smells like earth and innocence.

Auntie's Garden, SF

I can't believe that a week has gone by without a post. In my defense, Internet at my house has been very spotty this past week, however, I am also getting increasingly busy with school and work these days. Anyways, I hope you are all doing well and I am posting some pretty plant pics from my Auntie's house in Palo Alto, San Fran. Enjoy!

One of the greatest days: This is how we wash the elephants

Now filed under one of my favorite travel memories, the day we bathed and rode the freshly scrubbed elephants in the South of India. I know I'm anthropomorphizing, but just look how happy this elephant is!

We arrived at the river early in the morning, just before the elephants and were invited to join their handlers in the water to help bathe them (the elephants, not the handlers!). Using just a cut piece of coconut husk, we had a blast splashing the elephants and scrubbing them down.

We got to ride the big one later that morning.

If you're going to San Francisco...

I know I've been MIA from the blog for a little bit, but I'm back. I've been busy prepping for the start of another semester and just got back from a short but lovely trip to San Francisco. Not sure if my sister-in-law's sister is also technically my sister-in-law, but that's what I've decided to call her. Anyways, my sister-in-law just got married and I went for the wedding in San Fran...beautiful weather, I really thought it would be too cold for me, coming from the tropics, but it was just perfect. In just two days I got to do a bit of everything: visit with the family, eat real Chinese food (not Puerto Rican style with fries thankyouverymuch), a bit of shopping at Haight/Ashbury, and a stop at Tartine (delish!) in the Castro. All in all, a great couple of days.
A few pics from the wedding day:

The happy couple... Really a beautiful ceremony, you guys. I thought it was just the right amount of funny and serious, personal and conventional, tradition and style, adorable and adorable. Hope you are enjoying Belize right now!
My Mom
Cheers! Here's to spending time with those you love...

Taste of Puerto Rico: Quenepa

What is a quenepa? A tropical fruit, found in Puerto Rico, also known as spanish lime. It grows on trees and looks like so:
Soft and juicy like a lychee, a bit stringy like a plum, and also slightly acidic like citrus. After you peel it, it looks like so:
Watch out for seeds and enjoy! (These were free from my work, so they tasted that much sweeter...)

Do-Re-Mi

Power is out. Again. Grrr... However, bored and in the dark, I have
been mindlessly skimming YouTube on my iphone and came across this
little gem that I wanted to share. Love love performance art/breaking
out in spontaneous song and dance. Enjoy and happy Friday!

A day in the life of Abbey Road

Isn't it great how an album cover from what, over 30 years ago, can still make people act silly all day long at this crosswalk? Have to love anything that gets people to take off their serious face and have a little fun. I want to go to there.
